So, I gave my notice after 5 years combined at my current firm (I left for 9 months to an insurer and was invited back in a vastly expanded role). I’ll miss the prestige of this role and the people here, but it is time for a change.
The firm I work for currently is over 100 years old. We’ve historically had some insane claims. The Titanic, Hindenburg and the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers were all files handled by my company to name a few.
As a treat, here is the Lloyds of London slip showing the underwriters & their amounts for the Titanic. Most people don’t understand, but Lloyds is not an insurance company, it is a market that facilitates private investors to insure risks as an investment.
For a premium of £7,500 per ship, the ship was insured for 12 months with a limit of £1million. 12 insurers and over 50 investing syndicates participated in the risk as you can see below. Our letterhead (at the time) is at the top. Needless to say, it was not a great investment.
While the new job is a step down in prestige, it is a step up in experience, work/life balance and pay. I look forward to it.
I am pretty sold on a Wrangler. I looked at sedans, hatches and even wagons before deciding what I needed was as close to the opposite of a Fiesta ST as I could get. Bad handling, even worse build quality than a Mexican built subcompact
It won’t be for a little while or a few months, but I likely will purchase a Wrangler Sport S (either lightly used or new) with a 6 speed manual and soft top.
Any Jeep that I buy will need a new shift & transfer case knobs right away, an Oppo sticker and I think I will have a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I owe him one. I have a few mods planned, nothing crazy.

I assume you know this, but go back far enough and Lloyds was a coffee shop that became a good place to get shipping news, and thus a good place to sell insurance to shippers.

Congrats on the new gig!
Mrs Snuze and I ended up with a Wrangler Unlimited as a rental while we waited for her new car, and I fell IN LOVE!!!

Do Sports get a LSD? Rubicons get lockers obviously but I can’t remember if any other trims get anything.
Not life and death, just curious.

Prestige is meaningless, I care about how many hours a day I gotta work and how much money I can extrapolate from a company . I don’t work to make friends or care about career aspirations , at this point in my life I just want the cash.

I can’t say the same. I want it all.
I used to have a job that had crazy prestige (people were like, “wow, you do that?”), ridiculous benefits, 26 Fridays off , 30 days of PTO, all federal holidays off , all state holidays off... If I went on a special assignment, they’d pad me a handful of days on each end for prep and recovery . Sometimes they also shut us down when manufacturing wasn’t actively working on things, which averaged to another 2 weeks a year (ranged from 0-4 weeks). Some years I had about 4 months off work.
The pay was a little below market, but with that kind of time off you had so much freedom to enjoy life. In some ways having ridiculous amounts of PTO is the best benefit I could think of because if you want to do something you can do it when crowds are small or flights are cheap/empty (Fly out on a Tuesday, return the following Saturday, and it’s dirt cheap, as are the hotel rooms ) . You also cannot fathom how productive people are in an environment like that.
But a little below market in what I do is more than enough to live comfortably, especially if you’re not paying out the nose for stuff due to your extreme flexibility.

So what I’m reading here is that you and I will be able to spearhead the first ever Oppo offroad rally?

Maybe, but if your Miata beats my Jeep... The risk is too high!

Agreed, when I sta rted my latest gig a year ago it took a while to agree on terms, mostly because I insisted on 5 weeks PTO to start and the option of another 3 weeks unpaid time off if I chose to. I’ve held VP tit le s and the like many times, all of which brought on extreme travel demands and politics. My current gig pays well, get time off when I want it, and I sleep in my own bed.
